Hyphessobrycon takasei

++ Wild collected Hyphessobrycon takasei currently (December 2010) arrived ++ After seeing and purchasing this beautiful tetra from the under Amazonas basin (Amapá area) at AQUARIUM GLASER for the first time, we were not sure in the beginning, if it is definitely Hy. takasei, because its shoulder spot seemed a little to small to us. Therefore we later sent photos of "our Takasei" to Dr. Géry (France), asking for identification as far as this is possible according to a photo. He replied that the shoulder spots can turn out variable and the shown fish are definitely Hyphessobrycon takasei. The keeping - if possible in softer water in a tank with darker ground and not too glaring light - does not cause any difficulties. Also breeding is quite possible. It turned out to be a very productive tetra as the maximum numbers of eggs, counted by us amounted to between 450 and 490/female (while only approx. 1/3 developed). We hope this attractive tetra will find his lovers and with them a wider spreading among the hobbyists.(Photos & Text von P. & M. Hoffmann)
