Boulengerella cuvieri

From Venezuela we could import Boulengerella cuvieri, a in the entire Amazon area spread species. In its habitat this up to 1 m long and 6 kg growing characin inhabits different water types. There it can be found mostly in fast flowing waters, where it lurks behind obstacles such as rocks and trunks on booty. Usually they stand closely under the water surface, they are excellent jumpers (ensure your tank ). For their maintenance attention is to be paid for a stress-free accommodation, since otherwise it can come to uncontrolled escape reactions. When frightend they use to dart against the panes and hurt their sensitive jaws. As true carnivores they should be fed with living or frozen fish and of course only associated with fish of their size. Small tank mates are regarded as a superb food.(Photo F. Schäfer, Text K.
