About this Channa species we do not know too much. It originates from Sumatra and we are not able to classify this species on the basis of its youth colouring. Probably their final size lies within the range of 30 – 40cm. If one is ready to slur over its enormous appetite and decides for its care, there is still a good many to be discovered in its social and brood care behaviour. To get a sufficient number of equal large partners one should always begin with a not too small group of young Channa. If one keeps it betimes with others, most suitable larger fish species together, they remain relatively peaceful. When pair forming is completed, they should be brought in an tank for their own, to be able to begin first breed attempts. Their courtship and mating behaviour reminds of other labyrinth fish. About their brood care different observations are present. Thus females should feed the young fish with unfertilized eggs, also a Diskus like mucus feeding is reported.(Photo F. Schäfer, Text K.
