The
hump of the male of G. balzanii is comparable to the feather tail of a
peacock: it is simply the expression of manhood! The Paraguay Eartheater
originates from the southern parts of South America and is imported now
and then from Paraguay as wild collected stock, but the species is also
bred on a regular basis. The peaceful and quirky animal is thus quite
often available, like our photographed specimens that originate from
Taiwan.
The
species is a maternal, larvophilous mouthbrooder; this means that only
the female takes care for the brood and that only the hatched larvae are
taken in the mouth, while the eggs (which are placed on stones etc.)
are treated in a “normal” way.
For our customers: the animals have code 676012 on our stocklist. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade.
