Xiphophorus meyeri

18. April 2018

The marbled platyfish (Xiphophorus meyeri) belongs to the rarest animals in the world. It is known only from a small area in Mexico and even there it is found only in a few places. This is the reason why this species is considered to be endangered, as like in its close relative, the Monterrey platy (X. couchianus) the demand for water in the region is rising and the few natural habitats are in danger to dry out.

So it is very good the some enthusiasts keep and breed this fish despite it is – compared with the colorful sports of the typical aquarium platys – a rather drab coloured animal. Thanks to these hobbyists the species may survive. From time to time even here in the wholesale trade some specimens appear. The fish we currently offer are German bred ones. This wild platy attains a length of about 3 cm (males) and 4 cm (females). Keping and breeding can be roughly comared wth hat of the variable platyfish (X. variatus), but X. meyeri is by far less productive.

For our custimers: the fish have code 476532 on our stocklist. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade. Available in small numbers only!
