Ageneiosus vittatus

6. July 2007

July 2002: For the first time we could import Ageneiosus vittatus from Peru. Slopehead catfish of the genus Ageneiosus are particularly noticeable by its strongly flattened head. These predators can reach an overall length of 30 cm. For the maintenance large basins are necessary. A dark bottom, some stones and bogwood should be brought in for tank layout. A big dimensioned filtering unit is important the water quality, this is the most basic point for the successful maintenance of this species. The fact that they are in their habitat pure carnivors should be considered before the acquisition. Best you give them living food, after habituation they will eat fish meat, earthworms or shrimps. With sufficient feeding and good water quality the breeding is possible, but usually not very productive, due to the decrepitness of the larvae.
