Aphyoplatys duboisi

23. February 2016

It
has been many, many years ago since we were able to import this
charming dwarf killi the last time. Currently the fish are about 1.5-2
cm long, maximum length reported for Aphyoplatys duboisi is only 2.5 cm.
The fish have been collected in the surroundings of Brazzaville.

Despite
their very small size these fish are not at all very sensitive. In fact
the males can be even a bit quarrelsome against each other. But they
will not do real harm during combating. It is the best choice to keep
these jewels in small tanks on their own. Here the keeper has the best
control over them. The fish spawn readily, but to raise the youngsters
is sometimes a bit tricky. A. duboisi is a substrate spawner and the
eggs do not need a dry period to hatch.

These
dwarf killis feed readily on dried food as well as on Artemia nauplia
and comparative small food items. If one wants to breed the fish soft
and slightly acidic water is recommended. The water level should be
rather low, about 15 cm is best.
