Channa maculata

Channa maculata is a snakehead which origins of the border area of China and Viet Nam. It is there very common and offered on markets in large numbers, naturally as a food fish. In their habitat C. maculata lives in ponds, lakes and ditches, usually over sandy or muddy bottoms. With a final size of maximally 30cm they belong to the species which can be maintained in the aquarium. As expressed predatory fish they feed on large insects, fish and frogs. Their enormous appetite can be usually satisfied in the aquarium by strip cut fish meat. For the socialization only fish, which are larger than the maintained snakeheads, are suitable. Also among themselves snakeheads can be quite incompatible, daily detailed control of the aquarium can help to avoid losses.
