Corydoras ephippifer

This true mailed catfish species was imported from Belem (Brazil). The latin name „ephippifer“ is a combination from „ephippium“ (lat. = saddle) und „ferre“ (lat. = bearing) referring to the black spot on the basis of the dorsal fin. The animals reach a maximal length of 6 cm. They should be kept in a group. They are social animals and almost the whole time looking for food. As with all corydoras species these fish are not picky and will eat all types of commercially available fish food. These imports from the wild however should be offered a clean tank to avoid infections, particularly of the sensitive barbels. About successful breeding nothing has been reported up to now.(Text: I. den Daas, Photo: F. Schäfer)
