Nandopsis salvini

6. July 2007

December 2006: At present we can offer a very beautiful, strongly red coloured variant of Nandopsis (Cichlasoma) salvini to you. They origin from South Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, where they live in to the Atlantic ocean heading streams. Like most Central American cichlids they are very easy to keep in middle hard water at pH values in the neutral range. With a maximum size of 20 cm they belong not to the giants, need however nevertheless sufficiently large tanks (starting from 150 cm). They can be kept together with other cichlid species. A socialization with small fishes is to be avoided, since they, according to their nature, regard them as food. They should be fed with substantial food, a granulated food with a high rate of shrimps can thereby affect the development of the red colour. They are easy to breed and their territorial and brood care behaviour make them to interesting tank inhabitants. An aquarium with Central American cichlids becomes actually never boring.(Photo F.
