Oryzias celebensis the Celebes rice fish originates, as the species name indicates, from Indonesia where it inhabits the island Celebes. It lives in standing to slowly flowing waters which are heavily planted. As an approximately 5 cm large becoming schooling fish it needs a free swimming area and retreat possibilities, since rice fish occasionally tend to become somewhat quarrelsome among themselves. With their maintenance it is to be considered that Oryzias celebensis prefers rather high pH values. Optimal water should exhibit a pH of 8 and also a not to small water hardness (DGH 10°). In such a water even the breeding of rice fish is possible. Interesting is that the female carries the eggs several hours before attaching them to a substrate. The raising of the fry should not be difficult.
