Pachypanchax playfairii

6. October 2015

Aquarists
who like to read in elder books find this killifish in all literature
until the 1970ies: the Golden Panchax, Pachypanchax playfairii. Then the
species seems to have disappeared from the aquarium hobby mainstream.
By the way: the Golden Panchax is the only primary freshwater fish
species from the Seychelles.

The Golden Panchax
belongs to the more robust species of killifish and is one of the
comparatively rare killis that can be kept even in community tanks.
However, tankmates should not be too small. The maximum length reported
in literature is 10 cm; our specimens are currently about half that long
and sexually fully mature. Females can be easily recognized by the dark
spot in the dorsal fin. In specimens ready to spawn the scales on the
back ruffle up. This phenomenon is unique among all the fish species
known so far.

Anyway,
we are glad to be able to offer that pretty oldtimer again. Obviously
it has survived in the tanks of real enthusiasts, for the specimens in
our fishhouse are tank-bred ones, bred in Europe…

For our customers: the fish have code 342402 on our stocklist. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade.
