Pyrrhulina cf. brevis

16. January 2012

This gem from Peru is without any doubt the most colorful species in the genus Pyrrhulina. In breeding mood the males get red-orange fins and on each scale appears a cherry-red spot. One should keep this up to 6 cm long species in larger tanks. Under these conditions it is possible to keep more than one territorial male. Now the tank becomes the scene of neverending (but harmless) quarrels – it is simply amazing to observe the behaviour of this beautiful fish. Keeping and breeding is equal to that of P. laeta.

For our customers: the fish has code 286754 on our stocklist. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade.

Suggestion of a common name: Redfin-Pyrrhulina

Lexicon. Pyrrhulina: means “small bullfinch”, because the males develope much red coloration during courtship, exactly as the bullfinch male (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) does. brevis: Latin, means “short”.
