Serrasalmus rhombeus – veteran

27. November 2015

From time to time we import fully grown Black Piranhas from Peru (see http://www.aquariumglaser.de/en/news/3500gramm_35cm_Serrasalmus_rhombeus_BLACK_en/).
Serrasalmus rhombeus (formerly also known as S. niger) is the biggest
of all species of piranha. In contrast to the well known Red Piranha
(Pygocentrus nattereri) the Black ones are solitary fish.

The
specimen we obtained now shows clearly how hard the life in the wild
can be. Right behind the head a big piece of flesh is missing. The awful
wound has healed very well. However, we cannot say wether this veteran
was wounded while fighting with a conspecific or if it happened during
an attack of another predator.

For our customers: the animal has code 292810 on our stocklist. Please  note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade.
