Nannacara adoketa 2

27. November 2009

This cichlid originates from a quite small area in the middle course of the Rio Negro in Brazil. It was discovered as late as 1993 and for a long time most aquarium enthusiasts only could dream off it. The very few imported specimens were mostly sold to Japan. They were very expensive, but nevertheless found their market.

Nannacara adoketa is different from other Nannacara in serveral aspects. For example, its natural range is far from the range of all other members of the genus. This led to the erection of a sepearate genus for this species (and the species N. bimaculata), namely Ivanacara. Currently there is no broad acceptance of this.

The males of this beautiful species can reach a length of 8-9 cm, whereas the females stay about 3 cm smaller. The fish need soft and acidic water to thrive well. Temperature should be between 23 and 26°C, the animals generally prefer cooler water than warmer water! Even breeding appears at temperatures as low as 24°C. N. adoketa are open brooders with a parent family.

For our customers: the fish have code 683485 on our stocklist. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale market.
