Aphanius farsicus

8. February 2016

Currently
we have some fish in stock that are available every year only for a few
weeks. These species are kept and bred by the hobbyists in a very
special way, the “balcony aquarium hobby”. The species kept in that
manner are specialized in water temperatures that differ clearly between
day and night and they also need unfiltered sunlight. So they thrive in
an optimal way when kept in aquaria, small garden ponds etc. outside
the house over the largest part of the year. The breeders usually empty
their tanks during the coldest time of winter and this is the
opportunity for us to obtain some of these top-rarities: goodeids,
livebearers, and killis.

The
killifish that live around the Mediterranean in North Africa, Europe,
and Western Asia belong clearly to the balcony fish. Most belong to the
genus Aphanius. We can offer currently three different species of
Aphanius, among them A. farsicus. Even hobbyists specialized in killis
may not know that name. But don´t worry, it is the very same species
that was known until recently under the name of A. persicus.

Aphanius
farsicus originates from Iran. Here it lives around the lake Shiraz.
The species attains a maximum length of about 5-6 cm. Our specimens in
the fishhouse are already quite pretty, but – due to the season – not in
breeding mood. But during the breeding season they look really
spectacular, see here for example: http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/aphanius-farsicus/

For our customers: the animals have code 300752 on our stocklist. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade.
