Variety is the spice of life—or, in other words, without variety, life is boring. Apistogramma agassizii seems to understand this, as this dwarf cichlid species truly offers a wealth of variety in its coloration. This applies to local populations, individual color variations, and selective breeding forms.

The latest breed variant of A. agassizii is “Blue Flame.” In this variant, the males’ bodies are neon blue, and their caudal fins are bright orange-red. Otherwise, these magnificent fish are just like any other Apistogramma agassizii: easy to care for, peaceful, and fascinating to watch.
Maximum size: females approx. 4–5 cm, males approx. 8 cm; temperature: 20–28°C; pH and hardness: not important for general care (tap water), but soft and acidic for breeding; diet: omnivorous; social behavior: a relatively peaceful cichlid with a social hierarchy, harem formation, and a mother-father family structure.
