The needle catfish Farlowella amazonum is imported much less frequently than some of its conspecifics. We present wild-caught specimens of this species here: https://www.aquariumglaser.de/en/10-catfishes/farlowella-amazonum-2/; general care instructions can be found here: https://www.aquariumglaser.de/en/10-catfishes/10b-catfishes-suckermouths-plecos-and-l-numbers/farlowella_platorhynchus_en/

Breeding Farlowella is not inherently more difficult than breeding other open-brooding armored catfish, such as Sturisoma and others. However, it is rarely practiced because the general demand is well met by wild-caught specimens. But the situation is somewhat different for rarer species, such as F. amazonum. Here, “rare” does not mean that they are rare in nature. They are not. But they are rarely brought back by fishermen in Brazil. That is why we are pleased to now be able to offer captive-bred specimens of this beautiful species for the first time and thus fill the gap in demand.
For our customers: the captive-bred specimens of F. amazonum have code 253644 (12–15 cm) on our stock list. Please note that we supply exclusively to wholesalers.
