Every now and then, we receive the fantastic Moenkhausia agnesae from Peru. This is a larger species of tetra that, thanks to its hardiness, can be kept successfully with cichlids and catfish. Its maximum length is reported to be about 8 cm.

In the past, this characin species was often confused with Moenkhausia simulata (see https://www.aquariumglaser.de/en/09-characoids-tetra-relationship/moenkhausia-simulata-2/). However, in M. simulata, the horizontal stripes on the body are all blackish, whereas in M. agnesae they are reddish on the back. Hyphessobrycon hexastichos is also very similar (see https://www.aquariumglaser.de/en/09-characoids-tetra-relationship/hyphessobrycon-hexastichos-2/)
For our customers: depending on size, these fish have codes ranging from 268572 (2–3 cm) to 268575 (5–8 cm) on our stock list. Please note that we supply exclusively to wholesale customers.
